The senior management here speak in such an abrasive manner to the juniors. It's such crass, rough behaviour. It matters. This kind of behaviour filters out into the whole hotel experience. The Claridges staff were much more pleasant to watch in their treatment of one another.

Management must work with staff; help out if and when necessary; smooth out any perceived problems. Stressed and nervous staff don't work well. Exacting and demanding management must provide full training.

Prince Alwaleed is not to be envied or praised. He and his entourage had multiple vehicles shipped to London, just for the purpose of having his own transportation, while in the city for a short time: EXTREMELY WASTEFUL! He could have used local vehicles and redirected all of that ill-spent money on people in need (and STILL have had room in the budget for hiring local elite transportation service while visiting). I have NO RESPECT for humans as this.

The hallmark of a good hotel employee (like a good waiter) is absolute unflappable calm in all situations. You never let a guest see you sweat. You are also (generally) as invisible as possible. In addition, it is NOT the duty of any hotel employee, or restaurant waiter, to be the friend, jokester, or confidant of the guest. A hotel employee is the closest most of the public will come to meeting an "old school" servant--if you want a masterclass Helen Mirren in "Gosford Park" and Anthony Hopkins in "Remains of the Day". The head butler is a disaster. He's joking with Stephen Fry, walked into the suite first, offers an opinion on how the staff is or is not ready for guests, and tells him that he has a kettle on???? WTAF? Fry's remark about the elevator should have been met with a smile and perhaps a nod., the door should have been opened for Fry to enter first, "Everyone has been quite diligent" as a response to the inquiry about staff (never a rush, never a problem), and, at most, "Would you care for some tea, sir?"--better yet "Is there anything you require? Some refreshment perhaps?" He's acting like a suburban housewife the day after the movers left--"Care for a cuppa?" Then to make those remarks via the communication devise and to reprimand an underling IN THE PUBLIC AREA OF THE HOTEL? If I was the General Manager and saw this video his ass would be out the door faster than he could have another hissy fit. And it isn't just him. At 11:40 the front of house inspector position is speaking with a guest (I believe about the tribulations of opening?) and thumps him on the back? At 13:06 one of the staff is exchanging decor opinions with a guest? What are these people thinking? And yes, I have the resume credentials to back up my remarks.

The hotel is,no doubt, beautiful, but I am really appalled at how the staff is treated. The head of the butlers has no class, no manners, and no reason to behave the way he does. The royalty/owner is ridiculous. People with money who are feared by others are so weird. I am not impressed, and would not stay at The Savoy.

Guests left unhappy because the negative vibes in the form of insults and abuse of the General Manager toward the lowly staff reverberated back from the staff to the guests. What kind of respectable hotel would tolerate that kind of unbridled abuse toward anyone?

the whistling head chef is lovely and just gently encouraging his staff to get the food out. the butler's 25 yrs of experience suggests he was trained 25 years ago and sadly hasn't changed. 3 years and 3 weeks to prepare and the rubbish the Prince had to pass was inexcusable, don't leave crap in a boardroom when 2 royal families are due to arrive. the Manager's curt "toast' to 'Savoy' could've been grander, and more welcoming. pay 220 MILLION, to have to walk past garbage that shouldn't be there on your first walk through. that's really shocking.

Savoy is complete opposite of claridges, there's too much noise, staff are clueless, and god that manager seems like nightmare to work with, he has not respect and politeness to his own staff, there is no encouragement for staff, i mean if staffs are not treated well then how can you exptect a good service.

Just to prove a point that the old classic traditional gentry etiquette skills is what is missing nowadays in the casual modern era. Love the old butler he really put his heart and soul into it and so proud of his work. Unfortunately I don’t think many young people have a clue about the importance of the work. The young people may think ‘what’s big deal’ yes it’s big deal. People paying a lot of money, so they want to get the service, not only that this creates the job market

Was in this kind of job as a young man, was spoken to very badly by over the top flambouyant superiours and I finally blew my top many times, which felt great despite losing jobs. Teamwork should not be splintered by wannabee ogre's, it breeds contempt and bad whispers. Good times, tarnished by idiots I'm afraid.
